Community Child Protection Committee
(CCPC)

OVERVIEW

OCV in September 2024 established a Community Child Protection Committee in Olturoto to serve as a dedicated body for safeguarding the welfare of children within the community. This committee’s primary purpose is to monitor, report, and address issues related to child protection, including but not limited to, preventing and responding to cases of child abuse, neglect, exploitation, and ensuring that children’s rights are upheld according to local laws and international standards.

The establishment of the Child Protection Committee therefore serves as the cornerstone of our new strategy, as it embodies the shift towards empowering the community to take an active role in the protection and well-being of its children.

WHY CCPC?

Local Ownership and Sustainability
The committee fosters a sense of ownership over the safety and well-being of children. This approach will ensure that child protection efforts are sustainable and culturally relevant.
Integration with Broader Community Efforts
The committee integrates child protection into broader community development initiatives, such as health, education, and social services. This holistic approach ensures that children’s needs are addressed in all aspects of their lives.
Enhanced Collaboration
The committee serves as a bridge between OCV and the community, facilitating collaboration with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders. This collaboration enhances the effectiveness of our child protection efforts and ensures that resources are utilized efficiently.
Building Trust and Accountability
The committee helps build trust within the community. Families and children are more likely to seek help and report issues when they know there is a dedicated body working in their best interest.
