Strategic Empowerment

Helping caregivers build sustainable livelihoods and long-term stability

Economic security plays a crucial role in keeping families strong and stable. Many families in Olturoto face significant economic challenges. When caregivers have a steady income, children enjoy a safer, more nurturing environment, reducing the risks of neglect, separation, or vulnerability. OCV empowers caregivers by helping them acquire valuable livelihood skills and build small businesses, fostering dignity and independence for all.

A sustainable daily wage of Kshs 600 (A$7) is crucial in helping families stay together, though it remains challenging to achieve, especially for single-parent households. To address these economic hurdles, Kickstart through OCV has periodically supported caregivers through activities such as farming, beadwork, the production of reusable sanitary pads, and other microenterprises. These small businesses foster long-term security, enabling caregivers to afford essentials such as school supplies, medical care, and nutritious food.
